Lessons are approximately 1 hour and include grooming, tacking, riding, and caring for the horse after the lesson. Students are expected to learn to care for tack, clean up after themselves and their horse, put everything back as good or better than they found it. We require a commitment of one semester at a time. Fall semester is Sept-December, Spring semester is January-May. There are summer lessons and camps available in the summer. We welcome the privilege it is to have you at our farm.
Tuition is $250 per month. A couple times a year there will be 5 lessons in a month, and a couple times a year such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, there will be 3 lessons per month. Tuition amount does not change. Tuition is due the first week of the month. A $20 late fee will be assessed for tuition paid after the first week.
Don’t have time for twice a week but still want more riding time? Add twice a month pony club lessons to your lesson schedule. These lessons are discounted for pony club and take place on either the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays or 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. No make ups or reschedules.
Ride twice a week and watch your riding skills grow twice as quickly. You will gain strength and muscle memory from riding multiple times per week.
Twice a week lessons plus pony club lessons on either the 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.
Vaulting afternoon classes will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5-6 pm And Wednesdays and Fridays at 9-10 am. Tuition includes 2 classes per week, no make up lessons. We strongly encourage students to attend Horse Management classes the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 4-5 pm. Students must purchase vaulting/gymnastic shoes which are very inexpensive on amazon. They must wear leggings appropriate for gymnastics, a comfortable t shirt or work out shirt tucked in- no jeans or mid-drifts allowed.
Students begin their riding journey at Whitebrook Farm riding in the round pen. This is a smaller riding area where students learn a basic balanced position at the walk, trot, and canter. This is usually a semester when a student is riding once a week. Age, confidence, and physical fitness play factors in some students riding in the round pen for a longer period of time. Our students safety is our number one priority and this is best achieved by developing correct balance, skill, strength, and confidence in our riders from their very beginning. Please read our Skills with Levels document. This details the many different skills we develop in our riders. We follow the pony club certification levels beginning with D1.
Helmets are required. It is the student's responsibility to have a correctly fitted, ASTM/SEI approved helmet in order to ride. If a student does not have a well-fitted helmet, and there isn't one to borrow, they will not be allowed to ride. We do have some sizes available to borrow if a helmet is forgotten. But if there isn’t an appropriate fit they will not be allowed to ride.
Breeches or riding tights are required when riding in English/Dressage saddles to protect the leather on the seat. riding pants also allow a rider to be flexible and provide grip in the leg and/or seat areas.
Paddock boots or tall boots are required. Paddock boots are short English boots. They are not expensive and can be purchased on Amazon or other stores. We do not allow cowboy, Ugg, rain, hiking, or other fashion boots. These do not protect or support your feet and ankles when riding or working with horses. If a student comes in appropriate footwear they will not be allowed to ride.
We encourage students to join us for Horse Management class the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 4-5 pm September-May. Start by printing the D1 study guide, health and maintenance record book, and ordering the pony club manual.
Keep track of your horse's health and maintenance, including the cost so that you can be prepared to be responsible for your own horse.
The first study guide is D1 level, followed by D2, then D3. You will want to order a pony club manual to help you study and learn.
